Avril began teaching in 2015 running yoga in her local community. Heart In Yoga has grown, building a supportive community vibe in the Bayswater area. If you are looking for a yoga class that provides a safe, welcoming space for you then this is it.
Growing up in Surrey one of the home counties of England, Avril moved back to her birth land Australia in 2004. With a background in sports and fitness she is still not sure how she ended up working in Perth WA at a Bank. No wonder Yoga came calling.
Now a mother to 3 extraordinarily unique girls, her 'Harts’ who hold her heart wholly.
My Yoga Practice deepened after becoming a mother and finding the practice of mindfulness combined with the movement that we get with modern yoga was the medicine that I needed to bring equilibrium back to my mind and body.
My 3 Hart’s allowed me to explore yoga practice with them and I loved our time messing around and enjoying the happiness we all got through kid’s yoga. I decided to enrol in a Yoga teaching course that offered children’s yoga as well as Hatha and Vinyasa as part of their teachings, with my goal in mind to become a Children’s Yoga Teacher. During my learning I realised how joyful and rewarding teaching to adults could be, especially when I was privileged enough to teach the inspiring members of Kids Cancer Support Group – KCSG - http://kcsg.org.au/.
Over the last 3 years I love the little community vibe we have created with my classes in Bayswater, WA. I am delighted to be able to expand my offering to include a range of Yoga classes at The Mindful Space in Maylands.
Upon meeting Alisa of InsiteMind / www.insitemind.com.au and discovering that our vision and goals were intrinsically aligned I could not wait to become a part of this positive, collaborative, collective.
I would love to provide the community of Maylands and its surrounds a safe space to explore the benefits of modern yoga. Often, I hear that people feel too intimidated to begin yoga either they feel like they are not fit or flexible enough. Maybe they are unsure as to what spiritual experience they may get. My goal is to provide a safe space for all to feel comfortable and confident to find how yoga will work for them within their body. Mindful, movement minus the spiritual stuff – I believe your spiritual journey is yours to have and will not impose any personal ideals.
My Yoga learning journey will never end, I have completed my Yin Yoga qualification appreciating the art of growth through the practice of stillness of body and mind.
I also have begun to explore the therapy side of yoga, strongly believing that yoga provides us with a high level of care that is required when going through times of trauma. I have completed further studies on Yoga for cancer wellness and palliative care and look forward to delving deeper into this side of yoga teaching. I wanted to ensure that my learnings were holistic and ethical so began my further education in Counselling (TBC).
Flow Yoga – A vinyasa style class, medium to fast paced practice of linking yoga postures together through a creative flow.
Yin Yoga – A still, meditative practice of holding seated postures for 2-5mins to create a deep stretch creating space in body and mind.
Body Positive Yoga – A slow practice where we use all the props to support the body as we explore a variety of yoga postures, for those who feel a little self-conscious, this is a safe place to begin.
Yoga sculpt – Fast paced yoga practice where we will use light weights and resistance bands to increase the load. 50 mins with a 10-minute mindful reset to finish.
Gentle Yoga – Access all areas! Beginners welcome to this no-flow practice.
